Listening to the Experts

Parenting is such a plunge into the unknown that we often desire experts, or many other parents found through Googling to give us definite guidelines, like, “kids should only have 20 minutes of TV a day”, or “kids should sleep at 8pm every night”. These rules make us more secure as parents, so we can “parent” like many other parents are parenting.

It is scary to parent with our children as collaborators.

Weaning Baby From Breastfeeding Through Comics

If you have ever tried to wean a breastfed baby, you know how many sleepless nights, and kicking and screaming it often involves.

Kaikai was a rather puny preemie baby who started life drinking milk from a tube and then from a bottle while she was still in the NICU (Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit). Little did I know that when she got discharged from the NICU, she would take to the breast like erm… Cookie Monster to a cookie, or a vampire to human blood. We got into the happy habit of nursing to sleep – it was the easiest way to calm her down and get her really drowsy. Continue reading
